DRUGS and cash were seized by police after they raided suspected dealers’ homes.

Officers targeted a number of houses in Portobello and the city centre on Saturday morning after tip-offs from members of the community.

Class B drugs, equipment associated with dealing and cash were found at an address on Rutland Avenue, Portobello.

Officers arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion on possession of class B drugs with intent to supply.

Insp Richard Close, of the Central neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “Tackling illegal drug use and associated crime is one of our top priorities.

“Positive action will be carried out whenever we have sufficient evidence.

“I would urge local people to help us combat drug-related issues by reporting any suspected activity they see either in the streets or at properties near their homes”

The man who was arrested was later charged and appeared at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

A bail application was refused by the magistrates and the suspect was remanded in custody.

He will appear before a judge at Leeds Crown Court next month.
