A man was assaulted with a hammer in what police say was a targeted attack in Dewsbury.
The incident happened at around 6.50pm on Friday even, when a 27-year-old man was sat in his vehicle on Hadfield Road, Savile Town.
He was approached by an unknown male who asked if he would help him push his vehicle as it would not start. The victim and a family member went to assist.
The suspect, then produced a hammer which he used to assault the victim several times. The victim managed to run on to Falcon Road, chased by the suspect, and was then shortly followed by two further suspects. All three then continued to assault the victim, who again managed to escape and take refuge in a neighbouring property.
The first suspect is described as an Asian male, aged about 20 to 30 years old, about 5ft 7-8” tall, of athletic build. He was wearing a woolly hat and a high viz jacket. This male was also described to have a gold tooth.
The second suspect is described as an Asian male, with a very young face, about 16-17 years old.
The third suspect is described as an Asian male, he was in his early 20s to mid-20s and had a chubby build.
Detective Constable Divek Ubhi, of Kirklees CID, said: “I believe that this was a targeted attack on the victim and would seek to reassure the community that this type of incident is rare.
“This incident has occurred during the early part of the evening, and whilst it will have been dark, there will have been people in and around the area. I am certain that someone will have seen or heard something and I would urge them to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing.”
