A PENSIONER died after the van he was travelling in crashed into a pub.
Alan Craven, 71, was a front seat passenger in a Nissan Primastar Van which collided with the corner of the Black Bull public house in Midgley last Thursday.
The van was travelling on Bar Lane away from Bretton roundabout towards his home at New Hall Farm on Wakefield Road, near Flockton, when the incident happened just before 4pm.
His brother, a 76-year-old from Rotherham, was at the wheel and taken to Pinderfields Hospital with minor injuries.
An inquest into Mr Craven’s death on Tuesday heard that he was widowed and a car dismantler by trade. He died at the scene from multiple injuries, but the inquest has been adjourned for further inquiries.
Flowers and tributes were left at the roadside next to the Black Bull pub where he drank. He was also a regular at the George and Dragon in Flockton.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 01924 293047.
