A man jumped from a window to escape a house blaze in Wakefield last night (Tuesday).

Fire crews from Wakefield and Normanton were called to Anderton Street at around 7.40pm.

When they arrived, they found a first floor bedroom ablaze.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the 35-year-old man had escaped before firefighters arrived and had sustained burns in the fire.

He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital.

Crews used one hose reel to extinguish the fire and cleared the scene by around 9pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
