A 21-year-old accused of murdering a man in Normanton has been remanded in custody.
Simon Stewart, 21, appeared before city magistrates this morning (Tuesday) over the alleged murder of Ryan Gordon Carruthers at Smirthwaite View on Sunday, April 14.
Stewart, of Castleford Road, Normanton, spoke only to confirm his personal details during a brief remand hearing.
Magistrate Steven Hookham, remanding Stewart in custody until a bail hearing in Leeds on Thursday, said: “You can only appear at Leeds Crown Court for this matter.”
The court heard under recent legislation magistrates cannot hear bail applications in murder cases.
