Man taken to hospital with burns following Hemsworth house fire

A man has been taken to hospital with burns following a house fire in Hemsworth last night (Wednesday).

Crews from South Kirkby and Featherstone attended the bedroom fire at a house on Hollygarth Court at 11.03pm.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and used a hose reel to extinguish the flames.

They led the man and a woman, who had been alerted by a smoke detector, to safety.

Firefighters treated the man at the scene for burns to his leg and hand until paramedics arrived. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The house suffered minor damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
