MORE flooding could hit the city as heavy rain is expected to continue throughout Tuesday.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning saying prolonged periods of rain will last for most of today.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “The public should be prepared for a continued risk of both surface water and river flooding during this period.

“Flooding issues may be exacerbated in places by drainage impeded by debris, for example leaves.

Yesterday Denby Dale Road was closed at the junction with Thornes Road due to flooding under the rail bridge.

The council’s highway team worked into the night to keep traffic moving.

There was also flooding on Barnsley Road, close to the Harratts dealership, in Sandal.
