STARGAZERS were shocked to see a meteor tearing through the night sky on Saturday.
Readers contacted us after seeing an extraordinary streak of orange flame lighting up the sky at about 9.45pm.
The MetOffice tweeted shortly afterwards, identifying it as a meteor.
Simon Firth, of Horbury Road, Wakefield, said the sighting left him with “goose bumps”.
He said: “I initially thought it was a rocket firework, but the flame at the back was far too big, it was moving too fast, went too far and I could hear no sound from it.
“I was racking my brain as to what it could have been.”
