RACE for Life organisers have issued an urgent rallying call to the city’s women.
The women-only 5k event takes place at Thornes Park on Sunday, July 17 and the deadline for entries closes in less than six weeks.
Organisers at Cancer Research UK had hoped 4,000 women would enter building on the success of last year’s first ever Wakefield Race for Life, but so far, just 2,600 women have signed up.
Imogen Johnson, event manager for Race for Life in Wakefield, said: “We are very grateful to all the women who have already entered Race for Life in Wakefield but we urgently need many more.
“We are issuing an urgent rallying call to the city’s ‘missing’ women. We hope they will hear our plea and register as soon as possible. We need them to step forward and be counted. Together, they will help us create a fantastic atmosphere on the day and every step they take will help doctors, nurses and scientists take major strides forward in research.”
