A FATHER accused of murdering his five-year-old son has appeared in front of a judge.
Pazeer Ahmed, 34, is charged with the murder of Haroon Ahmed Bhatti at their family home on Aberford Road.
On Monday Ahmed appeared before Judge Geoffrey Marson QC at Leeds Crown Court, via video link from prison where he has been remanded.
Wearing a maroon-coloured jumper, Ahmed spoke only once to confirm his name during the brief hearing.
No application for bail was made by his lawyer Malcolm Taylor.
Next Tuesday he will be brought to Leeds Crown Court again for a preliminary hearing.
Last week Wakefield Magistrates’ Court heard that Ahmed had called police on Monday, January 30, at 11.40am.
When they arrived they found Haroon dead at the semi-detached house, close to Pinderfields Hospital.
Shortly afterwards Ahmed was arrested and taken to Wood Street police station where he was charged with murdering his son.
Neighbours spoke of their shock at the incident and said they had no idea a little boy lived at the house.
Haroon’s family, many of whom live in the Eastmoor area, have asked for privacy while they grieve.
A spokesman for the Bhatti family said: “He was a much loved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin.”
“We are in a complete and utter state of shock at the untimely death of Haroon.”
An inquest into Haroon’s death is expected to be opened next week.
