Gardeners have been left baffled after eggs started appearing amongst their flowers and shrubs overnight.
The eggs, which are believed to be from hens, are all date marked – some from as early as January this year.
So far, five people living in Sandal have reported the mysterious eggs appearing in their gardens.
Annie Carey, of Woolgreaves Avenue, Sandal, said: “The are definitely hen’s eggs but they can’t have come from the wild because they are all date stamped.
“Someone said it could be a fox but I haven’t seen any foxes and I think they would just eat the eggs rather than saving them for later.
“I believe it could be a squirrel that has been burying them. Someone has suggested they could be out-of-date eggs thrown out at Asda, but that is a long way for a little squirrel to carry an egg.
“It’s not just one garden, there are five other people involved as well. It’s a total mystery and I would like to know who or what is putting them there.”
Some of the eggs have been buried under soil but others have been found lying next to plants.
