A new Aldi supermarket in Wakefield will open its doors tomorrow.

The store, on Batley Road, will be opened by the under 7s team from Wakefield Jet Juniors FC at 8am. The club has been sponsored by Aldi, which has provided new kits.

The supermarket - which is the second in the city - has created 40 new jobs. The discount retailer has also asked pupils from nearby schools to take part in a healthy eating poster competition. The winning student will have their poster displayed in store and will win Aldi vouchers.

Paul Wells, store manager, said: “We are looking forward to opening our second store in Wakefield following the success of the store on Asdale Road.

“Aldi is proud to support the local community and we are happy to welcome Wakefield Jet Junior FC to officially open the new store. We hope that the kit sponsorship will ensure the club can continue the great work they do in the area.”
