The Hepworth gallery has teamed up with the Wakefield Express to launch a new photography competition to celebrate its first birthday.

Photographers are being invited to enter the competition with the theme ‘Hepworth Inspires’.

The gallery is hoping to see how the gallery has inspired photographers during the past year.

The 12 winners will have their pictures displayed in an exhibition in the gallery’s café bar during the summer and printed in the gallery’s 2013 calendar.

They will also receive a gift voucher and the People’s Choice overall winner will have their photograph reproduced for sale in the Hepworth’s shop.

Entries will be split into two categories for under 16-year-olds and over 16s, with six winners from each.

Entries must be submitted electronically by noon on Friday, May 11, via e-mail to win@hep worthwakefied.org or on a CD by post to Photography Competition, c/o Anna Ferris, The Hepworth Wakefield, Gallery Walk, Wakefield.

A panel of judges will select the winners by judging their visual appeal, originality and interpretation of the Hepworth Inspires theme.

The winners will be announced in the Express on Friday, May 18. Readers of the Express will then be able to vote for their favourite for the People’s Choice award.
