A student from Ossett was seriously injured after being carried 20m by a car in a hit and run.

The 21-year-old was knocked down in Sheffield on Wednesday, while she was crossing the road outside Marks and Spencer, on Ecclesall Road, at about 10pm.

It is believed two vehicles overtook a queue of traffic and ignored a red light as they hit her.

The woman was left with a broken vertebrae in her neck, a fractured pelvis, tissue damage and bruising to her body.

Both vehicles failed to stop at the scene and police want to trace the vehicles and their drivers.

Officers would especially like to speak to the owner of a bulk tipping heavy goods vehicle that was one of the stationary vehicles at the crossing.

Anyone with information should call 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 1221 of May 8, 2013.
