Firefighters tackled an out of control bonfire during the early hours of this morning.

They were called to a field off Leeds Road in Lofthouse at around 4.10am.

Mick Ferries, watch commander at Wakefield Fire Station, said: “It looks as if someone has been burning rubbish but has over stacked it.

“The fire was quite close to a building. If people are going to burn rubbish we would advise them to call West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s headquarters to let us know when and where they will be doing it.”
