A PETITION has been set up calling for Clarke Hall to be saved.

Friends of Clarke Hall say they want Wakefield Council to “put into action a plan for the long term sustainable future of the building”.

The petition asks the council to provide funding to keep the hall open while an action plan is drafted. So far 49 people have put their names to it.

Janice Scalon, of the Friends group, said: “We need as many people as possible to sign the petition and force the council to keep Clarke Hall open to the public.”

The friends group believes the council’s cabinet may discuss the future of the grade-II listed building in June. But a council spokeswoman said the agenda had not yet been set.

To sign the online e-petition log on to the council’s website, www.wakefield.gov.uk, and search for Clarke Hall epetition.
