Traders can pitch a stall for just £10 at the district’s markets next month.

Wakefield Council has offered the discount price to entice new traders and to get established traders to try selling at different markets.

The scheme is part of the national Love Your Local Market initiative, and applies to all markets in the Wakefield area between Wednesday, May 15 and Wednesday, May 29.

Coun David Dagger, cabinet member with responsibility for markets, said: “Markets play an important role in regenerating our towns and city and this initiative will help support new business opportunities.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has ever thought they might like to be a market trader. It is a great way to give trading a try to see if it is right for you.”

The offer allows people to trade on three occasions during the fortnight at Normanton, South Elmsall or Wakefield market, or on two occasions during the fortnight in Castleford, Ossett or Pontefract market.
