EMERGENCY services were kept busy across the city during the weekend.
On Saturday night a gas leak on Westgate resulted in the city centre road being closed and buildings evacuated.
The Cheapside junction with Westgate remained closed from around 8.30pm to shortly before 11pm as technicians fixed the leak.
And on Friday lunchtime a motorist travelling down Balne Lane hit a parked car, causing the static vehicle to overturn on to its roof.
Officers managed to turn the car, which was in the middle of the road, back on to its wheels.
Two women and a child, who were in the travelling car, were checked over by paramedics at the scene and escaped unhurt.
Later that day a lorry crashed into a bridge wall over the railway line on Station Road, Normanton.
Police helped divert traffic and the driver was taken to hospital to be checked over.
And a person had to be cut free from a car after it crashed in to a lamppost on Ouchthorpe Lane, in Outwood.
Fire crews from Wakefield and Ossett attended the incident at around 11pm and the person was taken to hospital, with what were thought to have been non-life threatening injuries.
