TANKERS worth a quarter of a million pounds were stolen from an industrial estate.

Four tankers were driven one by one out of Synthomer on the Roundwood Industrial Estate in Lupset.

Three were later recovered in a field in Rothwell but detectives are still hunting the fourth vehicle.

PC Jonathan Crossley said: “The three tankers which were recovered were empty.

“However, the fourth one which is still missing, was loaded with a substance.”

Jonathan Wright, operations manager at Synthomer, said the tanker was filled with ten tonnes of a non-hazardous industrial chemical.

He said: “The tankers are worth £250,000 in total.

“They were leased from a company called DHL and it was an employee of theirs who spotted three tankers at a farm in Rothwell when he was out walking his dog on Saturday.”

He alerted police who returned the tankers to the firm.

The thieves got into the yard by cutting the padlock off the gates before driving off with each tanker.

The stolen tanker was silver with a cylindrical trailer with “Synthomer” written on the side in blue.

The theft happened sometime between 11.50pm last Tuesday, August 23, and 2.15am the next morning.
