Police have opened a new front counter in the centre of Wakefield.

The new help desk replaces the counter at the Wood Street Police station which closed on Saturday.

And today (Monday) the new counter, at 87–93 Northgate, was officially opened by the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson.

People can report incidents at the counter, which will be open from 8am until 6pm Monday to Saturday.

It has a phone outside for out of hours contact.

Mr Burns-Williamson said: “The opening is the third one I have done in a matter of weeks and demonstrates our continued commitment to policing in the heart of the community.

“It illustrates how we are maximising the use of our assets and releasing those buildings no longer fit for purpose to make way for new ways of working in co-located teams, always ensuring our communities are safer and feel safer.”
