A CANNABIS factory was shut down by police during an early morning raid.

More than 100 plants worth thousands of pounds were discovered growing in a flat above a shop on Doncaster Road, Belle Vue.

Officers from the Rural neighbourhood police team (NPT) busted the operation during the early hours of Wednesday.

Acting Sgt Matt Jackson said: “A first floor flat and had been converted into growing rooms for cannabis plants.

“There were over 100 mature cannabis plants in the property.

“Forensic analysis of the drugs is still ongoing.

“But it is believed they would have been worth a substantial amount of money amounting to thousands of pounds.”

The first floor flat was raided after a tip-off from a suspicious member of the public.
