Christmas lights events taking place:
City centre: tonight from 5pm, carol-singing and lights to be switched on by Mayor of Wakefield Coun Janet Holmes.
Middlestown: Thursday, November 28, with carol-singing, part of Middlestown J&I School’s Christmas fair, from 5pm.
Netherton: Thursday, November 28, St Andrew’s Church, from 6.30pm.
Sandal: Friday, November 29, at 6.30pm, opposite the Castle pub, on Barnsley Road, followed by children’s carol-singing at Sandal Endowed Junior School.
Normanton: Friday, November 29, at 6pm, lights to be switched on by Yvette Cooper MP and Mayor of Normanton Hazell Jones.
Horbury: Saturday, November 30, from 4.30pm, late-night shopping on the High Street, stalls and live music.
Ossett: Saturday, November 30, from 10am to 6pm, Christmas market in the town centre precinct with rides, lights switched on by Ossett Academy’s head boy and girl Nikil Mistry and Anjuli Patel.
West Bretton: Tuesday, December 3, at 4pm, West Bretton J&I School putting on refreshments from 3.30pm.
Hall Green: Friday, December 6, at 6.30pm, at Hall Green Community Centre, with a performance from Dane Royd J&I School choir.
