And Britain’s Got Talent favourites Twist and Pulse did their bit to light up the event with their own performance.

Visits from Santa Claus, and Sid and Scrat, from Ice Age, entertained children throughout the day.

Barbara Winston, centre manager of the Ridings said excited fans had been camping around the stage from 7.30am.

She added: “We knew that it was going to be busy one.

“The event was very successful, attracting a huge crowd. We had a lot of people come through the doors to see Kingsland Road turn on our Christmas lights.

“Twist and Pulse put on a fantastic performance and the appearances from Santa Claus and Sid and Scrat also proved popular. It was an amazing day and everyone really enjoyed themselves.”

The Ridings Winter Wonderland will open tomorrow, giving children the chance to meet Santa every Saturday between 11am and 3pm.

On Sundays, when Santa is busy getting ready for the big day, Elf from the hit movie will be helping children write their letters to Santa.
