Remembrance services will take place across the district today (Sunday) remember those who lost their lives while serving their country.
The Royal British Legion will lay wreaths at the city cenotaph, off Rishworth Street, at 11am.
Churches across the area, including in Ossett and Horbury, will also hold their own Remembrance Day services.
In Normanton, war veterans, scouts and dignitaries will parade from Market Street, to Haw Hill Park, on Castleford Road, from 10.15am on Sunday, ahead of a service at the cenotaph. A service will be repeated at Altofts Cemetery, Church Road, Altofts from 11.30am.
Council leader Coun Peter Box said: “This is an important time of year when we come together to remember those who have made huge sacrifices for their country and those who continue to do so.”
On Monday from 10.50am there will be small services held at Horbury Memorial Park, Ossett town centre’s cenotaph and Reid Park Memorial in Horbury Bridge.
Many work places and schools will also hold two-minute silences at 11am.
