Fire crews from across West Yorkshire searched the River Aire last night after a man thought he saw a body in the river.
He was walking across the footbridge, near Lock Lane, Castleford, at around 6.30pm, when he spotted what he thought was a body float past.
Crews from Castleford, Normanton, Rothwell, Wakefield and Rastrick were called on to carry out searches, with back up from the police helicopter.
A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the river was extremely fast flowing at the time and bankside searches were carried out from Fryston village to Castleford, but a body was not found.
The search was called off at around 8.30pm.
