POLICE have questioned Normanton rugby star Ben Cockayne over allegations he committed a race-hate crime.

The former Normanton Knights player was interviewed under caution by West Yorkshire Police last Thursday for comments he allegedly made on social networking site Facebook.

Cockayne, 27, who played for Hull KR against Wakefield Wildcats at the Belle Vue on Sunday, allegedly made comments on a friend’s site referring to a taxi driver accused of driving off with his wallet, containing £100, after a night out.

A police spokeswoman confirmed a 27-year-old Wakefield man attended voluntarily at a police station and the case will be forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.
