There is still time to enjoy a fine selection of paintings at Anglers Country Park.

Sandal Art Group is showcasing its members’ work in the visitor centre at Wintersett until Sunday.

The event, which began on April 15, is the first in the group’s programme of public exhibitions.

Dick Taylor, who took these pictures, said: “Sandal Art Group’s exhibition at the Waterton Discovery Centre at Anglers’ Country Park was launched in fine style last Friday with a swift first sale of one of its members’ paintings.

“They also very quickly had the first participant in their children’s painting competition - three-year-old Beth Telford, from Sandal, who was there with mum Christine.”

Beth and Christine are pictured here putting the final touches to Beth’s colourful creation.

There are painting sessions for children whose pictures will be entered into a prize competition. This will be split into three age groups from toddlers to teenagers. The efforts will be judged at 3pm on Sunday.

Given the setting, one of the prime bird watching sites in the district, there are some lovely avian paintings. Wendy Ward’s oil painting of a spotted flycatcher, pictured, sold very quickly, Roger Cressey’s kingfisher has been turned into a popular card that has been sold, along with those of other art group members, in aid of the Wakefield Admiral Nurses project. So far they have raised about £600.

The exhibition is open from 11am to 4pm today, tomorrow and Sunday.
