WANT to find out what soldiers at Sandal Castle would have eaten before going in to battle?
A historian with a taste for the past will reveal all during a special talk this weekend.
Leading food historian Peter Brears will talk about cooking life during the English Civil War and demonstrate how pot ovens were a key tool.
Mr Brears of Leeds worked as an archaeologist at the castle back in the 1970s and has been a director at York’s Castle Museum.
He said: “This talk is aimed for everyone of all ages and is not designed for professors.
“If you walk around the site now you cannot see the ovens, bones or cooking vessels which were found there, but we know from evidence what they would have eaten.”
The event is being organised by the Friends of Sandal Castle and will take place tomorrow from 3pm until 5pm.
