THIEVES got away with thousands of pounds after smashing their way in to a city sandwich shop.
The break-in took place sometime during the early hours of Monday morning at Subway in the Westgate Retail and Leisure Park.
Police investigating the raid are still not sure how much money was taken from a till inside the shop, but said it was a “huge amount, running in to thousands of pounds”.
A spokeswoman for the company said the shop closed for a few hours on Monday morning as staff helped police with the investigation.
She added that company policy meant there was not much money left in the tills overnight, but could not comment on the amount of cash taken.
A worker discovered the break-in at the start of their shift shortly after 6am and rang police.
Two men, aged 24 and 25, were arrested on Monday afternoon on suspicion of burglary. They have since been released on police bail.
