Harry Potter, Gandalf and Jaws were just some of the straw-filled movie stars on display at the fifth annual Kirkhamgate Scarecrow Festival.
A record number of people attended this year’s ‘film’ themed event and voted for their favourite scarecrow.
An impressive Harry Potter themed scene, created by the Bramwell family, was crowned the winner and the family were rewarded with a trophy and £50.
The Dainton family claimed second place with Despicable Me characters and Sally ??? and Wendy ??? came a close third with Lord of the Rings.
Dawn Dainton, event organiser, said: “It was the busiest I’ve ever seen it.
“Everyone was extremely impressed by the scarecrows and all the hard work that goes into making them.
“This year we have raised lots of money for local community groups and charities but more importantly it has brought the community together.
“It really brings out the community spirit and we had lots of new visitors and new families taking part.
“The theme next year is ‘Best of British’ and we’ve already received 35 entries.”
Money raised from the festival will be given to local community groups and will also be used to throw a party for the village’s pensioners.
Next year’s festival will be on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 2015 to enter visit www.kirkhamgatescarecrows.co.uk
