Four Wakefield schools have been named among the best performing in the country, according to The Sunday Times Parent Power guide.

Queen Elizabeth Grammar School came second and Wakefield Girls’ High School fifth in the top 10 independent secondary schools in the north.

Rooks Nest Academy and Lofthouse Gate Primary School came second and third, respectively, in the top 10 state primary schools in the north.

And St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Pontefract came seventh.

Parent Power assesses the performances of the top 2,000 state and independent schools.

Secondary schools are ranked according to the percentage of pupils achieving A* to B grades at A-level and A* and A grades at GCSE.

Primary and independent prep school standings are based on Key Stage 2 SAT results at Level.
