MORE children than ever took to the fields for this year’s Scootathlon event.

Thirty-five youngsters, aged between three and nine, competed at QEGS during the fun event organised by Rotary Club of Wakefield.

Similar to a triathlon, children got on their scooters for 400m, followed by a 400m cycle, before running 150m.

Organiser Peter Clarke said: “It all went very well and we had our first disabled competitor, which was great to see.

“A big thank you to everyone who supported it.”

All entrants received a T-shirt, medal and certificate.

Proceeds, which are yet to be calculated, will go to West Yorkshire Forget Me Not Trust which is building a children’s hospice.
