Seaside coming to Wakefield city centre - grab your bucket and spade

FAMILIES are ready to welcome the seaside to the city tomorrow.

Children will have their buckets and spades at the ready for a giant sandpit in the city centre, as well as a helter skelter and hula dancers.

There will also be music from Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band and a range of seaside-themed food like fish and chips, donuts and ice-cream.

Wakefield Wildcats players and club mascot Daddy Cool will also appear at the Wakefield Council event, called Seaside in the City.

Wildcats’ chief executive James Elston said: “We’re delighted to be playing our part in what will be a fantastic day for people in Wakefield.

“We’ve seen how events can bring people together and I’m sure this will be a great day out for families and friends to enjoy.”

Tomorrow’s other attractions include donkeys, trampolines, water balls plus a craft and produce market.

And over the weekend The Ridings will be provide Punch & Judy, tasty treats, singing and dancing.

Trinity Walk will offer complimentary candy floss, games, rides and face painting.

Coun David Dagger, cabinet member for Culture, said: “The seaside in the city event is nearly here.

“This is an opportunity for families and friends to enjoy a fun day out at the seaside without having to leave Wakefield.

All the activities are free and the event will run from 11am until 4pm.
