Festive celebrations officially begin today, with a Christmas market, lights switch on and Santa’s Grotto.

The market will run all day, offering a selection of gift ideas and festive treats, followed by fairground rides and entertainment in the High Street precinct from 5pm until 7pm.

And free parking will be on offer in the town centre all day to try and help boost trade.

A Santa’s grotto will allow children to meet Father Christmas in the town hall from 4pm.

Then a procession, led by Father Christmas in his sleigh, will leave the town hall and head to the precinct for the lights switch on at 6pm.

They will be turned on by Normanton MP Yvette Cooper and Mayor of Normanton Bill Wood.
