EMMERDALE and West End star Verity Rushworth joins Jason Donovan to head the cast of The Sound of Music when it arrives in Leeds this summer.
The pair play Maria and Captain Von Trapp in a new stage version of the classic musical, which is at Leeds Grand Theatre from June 7 to 25.
Verity is best known for her role as Donna Windsor in Emmerdale, and she has also appeared as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray in London’s West End.
Jason Donovan’s career spans nearly 25 years, from Neighbours to chart hits and a string of stage credits, including lead roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Rocky Horror Show and Sweeney Todd.
This wonderfully lavish production tells the story of the Von Trapp family, and how the arrival of novice nun Maria as governess to Captain Von Trapp’s seven children changes all their lives, and includes some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage, including Edelweiss, My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain and title song The Sound of Music.
Tickets are now on sale for the show, priced from £16 to £40.50, from www.leedsgrandtheatre.com or the box office on 0844 848 7206.
