Motorists face delays later this month when Spittal Hardwick Lane is closed for three weeks.
Works on an 18-week scheme to replace a culvert are currently being carried out on behalf of Wakefield Council.
As part of the works the road will be closed for three weeks from October 27 until November 17.
Graham West, service manager for planning, transportation and highways at Wakefield Council, said: “We apologise for any disruption and inconvenience that this has been caused.
“Our contractor is trying to complete the works to the highway culvert as soon as possible.
“The current works are essential if we are to maintain safe access along Spittal Hardwick Lane.
“We are currently in discussions with Arriva and are finalising plans to introduce a shuttle bus in the area to reduce the impact of the closure to those who rely on public transport while this work is going on.”
