Yorkshire Sculpture Park is celebrating being named one of the top tourism stars at the White Rose Awards 2011.

The park won the Business Tourism Award at the UK’s biggest tourism awards ceremony, which attracted nearly a thousand people.

It was praised for its ‘unique combination of sculpture and tailored event management’.

Jo Rodger, YSP’s head of visitor services, said “It is testament to the strong team effort that YSP continues to thrive despite the challenging economic environment.

“As one of the world’s leading open air art galleries, the stunning 500-acre setting and intimate meeting spaces combined with a unique blend of modern facilities, historic landscape, world-class sculpture, fantastic food, and experienced professional team make the an outstanding location.”

The sculpture park was presented with the award by tourism agency Welcome to Yorkshire at Doncaster Racecourse on Monday.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The awards evening is a spectacularly glittering affair and a real celebration of all that’s amazing about Yorkshire tourism. Those who took home a prized White Rose Award should be incredibly proud – congratulations to everyone who took part and made this the tourism night of the year.”

Winners from this year’s awards will go through to the national Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2012.

The park was also voted Yorkshire’s Most Magnificent Attraction last month.
