Thieves stole a handbag during mass at St Austin’s Church.

The woman’s bag was taken while she was worshipping at the church, on Wentworth Terrace.

The theft took place at about 6.50pm on Sunday, April 28.

Personal documents and cash were stolen from the black Radley bag.

Officers want to speak to two people who were seen behaving suspiciously at the church.

The first suspect was a short, stocky man, with cropped brown hair and he spoke with an Irish accent.

The second was a slim woman. She had blonde hair which was tied up and she was wearing baggy jeans.

The pair were accompanied by a girl who appeared to be around eight-years-old.

Sgt Mark Beet said: “This incident has quite rightly upset the victim and we are working to support her.

“I would ask anyone who has information about this matter to get in touch with us to help us identify these suspects.

“We are working closely with the church and have been offering support and assistance.”
