ARSONISTS torched a takeaway as a couple slept in the upstairs flat.

Darren Williamson and Angela Jennings were woken up by smoke alarms just after 1am on Tuesday morning.

Within a matter of minutes their flat above Desi Grilled on Doncaster Road was filled with thick black smoke.

Mr Williamson, 28, said: “I woke up hearing the smoke alarms going off and within two minutes the smoke had gone from ankle height to above our necks.

“It was coming through the cracks in the floor – my partner Angela was so scared.”

He and Miss Jennings, 22, escaped unharmed but have now had to move out of the flat they shared with Mr Williamson’s brother Chris, who was out on the night of the attack.

Mr Williamson said: “I never want to go through anything like that ever again. Angela can’t sleep since it happened.”

Police believe someone broke into the back of the takeaway and started a fire in the kitchen area.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are looking at a crime of arson with attempt to endanger life.”
