Residents across the Five Towns are being urged to volunteer as community first responders (CFRs) in a bid to save lives.

CFRs are volunteers who are trained to attend emergency calls received by the ambulance service and provide care until paramedics arrive.

Pontefract, Castleford, Featherstone and Normanton should have a minimum of 12 responders but currently only has four.

The group will hold an open evening next week where people can find out more about the role.

Steven Hudson, CFR co-ordinator for the area, said: “There is nothing to fear about volunteering to take part. All training is provided.”

The event will take place at Normanton Fire Station, on Princess Street on Thursday, December 5 from 7pm.
