A taxi driver had to be cut from his car following a hit-and-run in Horbury last night.

Firefighters rescued the 30-year-old man after a collision between his taxi and a blue Vauxhall Vectra, at the junction between Quarry Hill and Hawkingcroft Road, at about 11.30pm.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police later found the Vectra abandoned on Parklands Drive, in Horbury Bridge, with “extensive” damage.

And they said enquiries were ongoing to track down the driver.
