Travellers who have set up camp on a car park in Wakefield city centre have been told to leave.

The group arrived on the Ings Road site, opposite Wickes, last Wednesday, with more caravans arriving over the Easter weekend.

Wakefield Council, which operates the car park, have served the travellers with a legal notice to leave.

Glynn Humphries, service director for environment and streetscene, said: “The travellers were issued with a legal notice to leave the car park on Ings Road last week and we anticipate they will have left the site by the end of this week. We will take further action if this doesn’t happen.”
