Two injured in M1 crash

TWO people were injured in a crash on the M1 motorway.

A silver Lexus RX 300 was travelling northbound between junctions 36 and 37 towards Wakefield when it spun out of control.

It went across the central barrier and onto the southbound carriageway hitting a black Vauxhall Meriva.

Debris from the crash struck a red VW Transporter causing minor damage.

It happened on Sunday at 11.50am.

The driver of the Lexus, a 20-year-old Nottingham man, was cut free from the car and airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary where he remains in a serious condition.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 60-year-old Durham man, was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield suffering from serious injuries but has since been allowed to go home.

Both carriageways were shut for six hours.
