The number of people claiming out-of-work benefits across the district fell last month.
There were 5,570 people on Jobseeker’s Allowance in the Wakefield area in August, down from 5,912 the previous month.
Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show the number has fallen steadily in the last year, from 8,594 in August 2013.
Long-term youth unemployment also fell last month.
There were 1,470 16 to 24-year-olds across the district who were out-of-work for a year or more in August.
Nationally, the number of people classed as unemployed fell to 2.02m in the three months to the end of July.
