An 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a tractor at a popular farm in Rothwell.
The youngster died after undergoing complex surgery in hospital, following the incident at Swithens Farm yesterday morning.
It is believed the boy, who comes from the local area, was working as a farm hand at the site where his mum is also understood to work.
He is thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by the tractor’s trailer at 9.20am. The youngster was flown by Yorkshire Air Ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary, where he later died.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said a 48-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail.
The farm remains open to visitors. It is run by the Broadhead family and has a shop, playground, play barn and open farm.
The incident happened on a dirt track next to barns.
