A main road in and out of Wakefield has reopened following an earlier accident.

Both city bound lanes of Denby Dale Road were closed this afternoon after a lorry became trapped under a bridge.

The lorry hit the Double Two bridge in Thornes shortly after 2pm.

Motorists faced delays as emergency teams work to free the vehicle.

A police spokesman said: “We received a call about the incident at 2.08pm.

“There is no suggestion of any injuries.”

He said both city bound lanes were temporarily shut as well as one lane leaving Wakefield.
