A SMASH involving a bus and a car that has left up to six people seriously injured is the worst residents have seen.
A blue VW Golf hit an Arriva bus on the 149 service close to the Redbeck railway bridge, on Doncaster Road, Crofton at 2.15pm.
David Baines, of Redbeck Farm Shop, said it was the worst of 13 major smashes he has seen on the stretch of road.
“You never like to see it, but this is the worst we’ve had.”
Two people were taken to hospital by air ambulance following the smash suffering with serious injuries and there are reports of a number of injuries to bus passengers.
Eyewitnesses said four fire crews and a fleet of ambulances were at the scene.
Police said Doncaster Road will be closed until at least 9pm tonight.
The road is closed to outbound traffic from its junction with the A638 and the A655, close to Heath Common.
And the road is closed to inbound vehicles between the junctions with Lodge Lane and Wheeland Road. Diversions are in place.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area whilst the emergency services deal with the on going incident.
Resident Barry Murphy, of Doncaster Road, said: “I can see the front of a bus has been ripped out. I’ve seen a helicopter, probably three ambulances, the fire brigade and there’s an army of police here.”
