Dinosaurs were helping a business rally support for a proposed new tourist attraction.

Charlotte’s Ice-cream Parlour in Whitley, is hoping to open its own ‘Jurassic Park’ this summer, after being approached by dinosaur creator Christian Cristobal from Ossett.

But the planning application has come up against objections.

On Saturday, Mr Cristobal and his dinosaurs, launched a petition for the new attraction. More than 500 signatures were collected.

Geoffrey Wraithmell, owner of Charlotte’s , said: “It’s not about expanding, it’s about getting the business back to where it was pre-recession.

“Businesses have to move with the times. “

The site already has a playground, farm animals , crazy golf and a train.

Theme park designer and landscape architect, Mr Cristobal, has a life-size pterodactyl, woolly mammoth and a tyrannosaurus rex among others.

His creatures are a hit at parties and other events.

The planning consultation ends on June 25.
