VIDEO: Wakefield teen could sing at O2 Arena thanks to Paloma Faith cover song in Open Mic UK competition

A teenage singer is one step away from realising her dream of performing at the O2 Arena in London.

Gemma James, 17, of Denby Dale Road, Wakefield, is through to the area finals of the Open Mic UK competition.

She will rely on the audience vote at Dewsbury Town Hall on Sunday, December 1, to get through to the grand final in the capital city next year.

The Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) student has made it this far after wowing judges with her rendition of Paloma Faith’s New York during the regional finals in Sheffield last month.

Gemma regularly tours pubs and clubs across the city and performed at the Christmas lights switch on last year.

She is hoping for local support when she performs in Dewsbury as the audience will help decide who makes it through to London.
