Wakefield Council has reversed its decision to fly the town hall’s union flag at half mast to mark the funeral of Baroness Thatcher next Wednesday.

Yesterday the council told the Express that they would act in line with the government’s national Flag Protocol, which dictates that union flags should be lowered to half mast on the funeral days of former prime ministers, as well as First Ministers and members of the Royal family.

But today they announced that they would not be lowering the flag.

Margaret Thatcher, who was the country’s first and only woman prime minister, died on Monday morning following a stroke.
